The city of Townsville is on the north-eastern coast of Australia, in Queensland. It has a tropical savanna climate, and is warm all year round, but can be very wet between the months of November and May. Townsville is often picked as a stop-off point for people driving to Cairns, and it’s also popular a base for those wanting to explore the Great Barrier Reef. The city is located in a hilly area, although Townsville itself is fairly flat.
Another good wildlife attraction is Billabong Sanctuary, where you can see over 100 species of Australian animals. The Mount Spec National Park is also an interesting place to visit, where the quiet Paluma Village with its cool cafes and rainforest walks can show you a totally different side to the area.
Townsville is the perfect place to base yourself if you want to find out about the Great Barrier Reef, explore the rugged mountain terrain and relax on a beautiful beach. Download the free travel guide to see more details of the city’s attractions.
