A great base location for exploring the nearby areas of Bondi Beach and Hunter Valley, along with local attractions such as Sydney Opera House. Shoppers will be delighted by the huge quantity of high quality malls to be found within the city. Families have plenty of attraction close to hand to keep the young ones amused, whilst adults will undoubtedly appreciate the more boisterous side of Sydney as the sun goes down.

Sydney is Australia 's most populous city and really it's the big sister city to all the rest. It's a fast paced and vibrant and known for its world-class events, restaurants, shopping, night-life, markets, arts, live music and sporting events. It's a city which heaves with life and if you are a backpacking around Australia your visit will not be complete without a stopover.

The most notable thing about this bustling city is that it only takes a view of the harbor to instantly relax you and remind you that you are also in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Sydney which is located on the south east coast of Australia is built around Port Jackson and the Sydney Harbor . In fact, Sydney is known as the harbor city and is famous for, amongst other things, the Sydney Opera House which seems to rise up out of the harbor in spectacular glory.

Sydney is also well known for its beaches and if you are backpacking here you may want to book in at a hostel at Bondi Beach which is one of the most famous beaches in Australia . Tourists will find that not only is this the place to be if you want to swim, surf or sun bake but its also home to a happening social scene and there are plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes located beachside when you are ready to take the party off the beach.

If you are looking for something a little more culturally enlightened at night there are a number of performance companies in Sydney including the world class Sydney Theatre Company and Sydney Dance Company. Shoppers won't be disappointed either with a huge array of shopping experiences on offer including the contemporary, edgy and creative Oxford Street .

Any time of the year is a great time to visit Sydney . There are a number of regular events held here throughout the year including the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and the Sydney Film Festival and Sydney is also the birth place of one of Australia biggest rock festivals, the Big Day Out.

Sydney is Australia 's most expensive city too so if you are going to be visiting on your backpacking adventure set aside some extra funds to really enjoy this city.
