.Pyramids

The extraordinary thing about these pyramids is that they were built about 4500 years ago. Despite nature's toll, human invasions and other things that have impacted upon the region, the pyramids remain standing today. When the pyramids were originally constructed, a smooth surface made up of limestone covered the outer surface. The advancement of time has eroded away the smooth surface and what remains now is a rugged outer surface.   Pyramid of Khufu

The Pharaoh Khufu's Pyramid is the oldest and biggest pyramid and it is 4500 years old. This is also known as the Great Pyramid and is 450 feet tall. The estimate is that the pyramid required some 2.3 million stones to construct in total and construction took some 20 years to complete. The mummies preserved in the tombs were stolen long ago, along with priceless treasure that was also believed to be buried in the pyramids. The means by which the pyramids were constructed still remains a mystery. There were no modern transportation facilities available 4000 years ago, so it is remarkable that the people were able to build such huge structures without the aid of modern machinery.

There are many rides available around the pyramids; with options for camel and horse rides, or if you wish and even walking tours as well. These rides shouldn't cost you more than a few dollars, but it's money well spent. To get the price you will need to bargain with the person offering the service before you get on the camel.

To go inside the pyramids, you need separate tickets and the number offered is restricted. The steps are steep and narrow, but be ready for a thrilling journey into the heart of the pyramids.
