Hobart Travel Guide

Hobart is the capital of the island state of Tasmania. Its most important geographical feature is the striking Mt Wellington, which stands at over 1,200.metres. The mountain is so big that it has its own ecosystem and has a big effect on the local weather.

Another significant landmark of the city is Tasman Bridge. It connects the two shores of Hobart and can been seen from around the city. 

Hobart attracts visitors for its many festivals, such as Hobart Fringe Festival, Hobart Summer Festival, Southern Roots Festival, Ten Days On The Island and The Soundscape Festival. All of these draw an artistic and fun-loving crowd to the city. 

There are many popular tourist attractions in the in Hobart. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens can be found near the city centre and the first legal casino, Wrest Point Hotel Casino, was opened in Sandy Bay in Hobart. 

Australia oldest synagogue is Hobart Synagogue and Australia’s oldest theatre, Theatre Royal, is also found here. Both make interesting historical sights. 

Hobart has some fun, family attractions, like Alpenrail where you can see the model Swiss village and railway. You can also visit the Antarctic Adventure where you can pay a visit to a field camp and see what it’s like to experience sub-zero temperatures, or take a tour of the Cadbury Factory on Cadbury Road.  

You won’t be short of places to eat and drink in Hobart. The city has a good selection of restaurants and some lovely laid-back cafes.
