Table Mountain towers above this jewel of a city. Known as the "Paris of Africa, Cape Town offers its visitors a majestic climate, several public beaches, beautiful attractions and world class shopping and dining. Cape Town is the second largest city in South Africa, after Johannesburg, and it is the legislative capital of South Africa.

There is a lot to see and do in this city with activities to appeal to all interests. One of the most popular destinations is Robben Island, the infamous island prison from the Apartheid Era. Ferries travel daily from Alfred and Victoria Wharf to the former prison. Robben Island contained many notable inmates such as Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo. Tours are conducted by former inmates. 

Victoria and Alfred Wharf is one of the top dining and shopping attractions in downtown Cape Town. There are numerous restaurants, shopping malls and amusement attractions on the waterfront. It is also recommended that visitors take a gondola ride from the city up Table Mountain to get a good view of Cape Town and Table Bay.  

There are several unique neighbourhoods in Cape Town and the surrounding municipalities that are worth a visit. Outside of the city the surrounding region is known for its wineries. There are several wine tours available notable in nearby Stellenbosch. Just south of Capetown on the Cape Peninsula is Cape Point where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean converge.
