Beijing Travel Guide
Beijing is one of the oldest and most significant cities in China. It has served as the capital of successive Chinese dynasties during the Imperial ages and is now the capital of the People’s Republic of China. The area of Beijing has been long inhabited and the numerous archaeological sites and cultural and historical sites are a testament to this.
The Imperial sites are some of the most popular tourist attractions in Beijing. The Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Tiananmen Square and the Temple of Heaven are very popular destinations for visitors to Beijing. Travelling just outside the city, visitors are able to see sections of the Great Wall of China, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest manmade structures to ever have been built.
Beijing is not just a city of the past, it is also one of the most dynamic and modern cities in the fast growing nation of China. There are several shopping locations within the city including the Central Business District, Silk Street, Yizhuang, and Xidan. Beijing offers numerous goods to its visitors. The city of Beijing is also home to several parks including the Beijing Botanical Gardens and Benhai Park.
As the capital of China there are numerous museums, theatres and cultural facilities showcasing the wealth of artistic talent and legacy in this country. Notable museums include the National Museum of China, National Art Museum of China, and the Beijing Museum of Natural History.
